I’ve only been running competitively since Nov. 2011. I’ve gone from doing 10k to completing my first full marathon in that time, so what’s next? Do I start training for my next marathon? Well, living in Phoenix, that’s a bit hard to do because of the heat!!! It’s been a bit of a struggle the past week deciding what I want to do next. As much as I would love to run another full marathon, I personally don’t think I would need another 17 weeks of training, however when the morning temps are going to be around 85, and running in the night is not going to be any cooler that’s not something I’m going to look forward to doing, not to mention the risk of dehydration and severe muscle fatigue.
A friend referred The Camp Pendlenton Half-Marathon as an option. So I signed up!! It’s not till Sept. 8th, but it’ll be my first off-road race, so it’ll give me some time to get use to running off pavement again. The number of participants is a lot smaller, however I don’t really believe I’ll be placing within the top 3, but there are prizes for those placing in each division… at least it’s something to work towards.
Aside from figuring out what to do next, it was all about recovery this week. I’ve never had any swelling on my legs, but my right knee hurt for a few days. That’s pretty much gone and I’ve run a couple times this week. Need to work on my time management and get some serious stretching in cus I’m legs are feeling tight.
So as I finish this week’s entry, I’m going to change and recover from this mornings workout with a splash in the pool!!
stay cool..
